Oscar: Hoelee Moelee real politics is blowin’ up everywhere.
Oscar: Yeah..what‘s that thing?
MacIntosh: German word…it means developing policies to meet specific practical goals even if they conflict with your ideals. Why do you ask?
Oscar: A guy said Egypt is a failure of realpolitik.
MacIntosh: Yep. We believe in democracy and freedom but we have used our power and money to empower a dictator who oppresses his people.
Oscar: That’s yucky MacIntosh. Whys would we do that?
MacIntosh: Cheap oil. But in realpolitik they call it stability in the region.
Oscar: Howse does our money and power create stability?
MacIntosh: It’s like you have a building that’s leaning over and about to fall.
MacIntosh: So our money and power is used to prop the building up.
Oscar: Howse come the building leans over in the first place?
MacIntosh: The Egyptian people were not happy with their government.
Oscar: So our money and power was given to the peoples to make them happy?
MacIntosh: Nope. It went to a handful of people and made them very rich.
Oscar: Which made the peoples even more unhappy, huh MacIntosh.
Oscar: That’s crazy. Whys would we do that?
MacIntosh: Cheap oil.
Oscar: Howse much money do we spend to get cheap oil.
MacIntosh: We spend trillions in the mideast.
Oscar: That doesn’t make any sense.
Oscar: We spend trillions of our taxes from ours peoples, to wage war and pay bribes to dictators that oppress their peoples, all to get cheap oil which doesn’t seem very cheap to me.
MacIntosh: Yeah… but the people that control our energy and weapons companies get filthy rich.
Oscar: But I thought our government was for all the peoples.
MacIntosh: That’s our ideals.
Oscar: That’s not fair MacIntosh.
MacIntosh: Nope….that’s realpolitik.
